New Years Eve will be the last day that summer signing Paul Smith will be on the books of Walsall FC. In a bizarre revelation Smith has told of how Walsall would continue to pay his wages while on loan with Gillingham until January 1st 2006.

Dr World Cup!
Walsall team doctor Ralph Rogers will have a busy summer as he has been named the medical advisor to Trinidad and Tobago. Dr. Rogers will be contributing his medical and nutritional know how to Trinidad and Tobago’s efforts to progress out of the group stage where they have of course been paired with England, Sweden and Paraguay.

Today Walsall and striker Jorge Leitao announced the shock news that Jorge is to leave Walsall after the January 7th game FA Cup game against Barnsley.
Is Smith’s move to Gillingham still on
It was presumed that the loan move that took Paul Smith back to Gillingham would become a permanent on January 1st 1006 when the transfer window re-opens. Doubt however has been cast this week over comments made by Gillingham manager Ronnie Jepson and actions by the player himself.

Lee moves upstairs
Ex-Walsall boss Colin Lee has moved up stairs to take a Director of Football position at Millwall. David Tuttle has taken over as the manager of the lions in a caretaker capacity until the end of the season, becoming Millwall’s fourth manager in a year. Lee appointed Turtle as his assistant earlier this season when he took over at the club when they were rock bottom. Lee origionally joined Millwall as Steve Claridge’s assistant but quickly replaced him at the helm. This is now Lee’s third role at the club this season.

Loan ace’s stay terminated
Eric Skora’s loan spell from Preston has been terminated as a result of the injury he picked up against Oldham. The injury will not clear up in the next month and therefore his loan was terminated. The spell was scheduled to end on January 14th but he will be out of action beyond that date.

Will Eric be back?
Eric Skora is to remain at Preston North End while he recovers from the injury he sustained in the warm up of the Oldham game. Despite receiving the knock Skora played the first half before being substituted in the half time interval. The injury meant he was unable to make a telling contribution in the game and looked a shadow of his usual self.

Paul Gascoigne today departed Kettering Town after only a month in the job. He had a record of 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses which in all accounts is not bad for his first 6 games in management!!

Merson eyes Xmas return
Paul Merson is expected to be available for selection during the bus Christmas period. He has been out of action since the 0-0 draw with Brentford two months ago. He suffered a ruptured groin muscle but it wasn’t career threatening as first thought.

Skora Signs
Preston North End have announced that Eric Skora has joined Walsall on a months loan. Skora who is a 23 year old Frenchman, joined Preston in 2001 from French club Nancy. He spent last season on loan at Kilmarnock where he played 18 times scoring 3 goals. In over 40 league games for Preston he has failed to score but he does have one in each the League Cup and FA cup.
