Leyton Orient set to beat Swindon, Huddersfield and Carlisle United to non-league hot shot signing

League One NewsSwindon Town target John Campbell has today agreed to sign for League One rivals Leyton Orient.

‘The Robins’ were always the non-league strikers most likely destination after thoroughly enjoying his two successful trials with the club.  Having scored a hat-trick in his second trial game against Torquay this unsurprisingly attracted a whole host of other clubs to the Newcastle Benfield player.

Huddersfield Town had a long standing interest in the Geordie whilst Carlisle and Reading scouts had picked up  on his reserve game appearances.

However it was Leyton Orient who acted first and got him down to London for two training games played behind closed doors verses Tottenham Hotspur and Dagenham and Redbridge, played over the last few days.

Straight away the club have offered Campbell an 18 month contract, with the Spurs fixture earning huge praise from the Premier League opposition where he shone up against internationals, on the back of that game he’s now secured himself a shot at pro football.

Despite Swindon’s Chief Scout desperate to see the deal cemented to take the player to The County Ground, it is believed no firm offer was ever put to the hot shot.

Swindon have to travel to Leyton Orient this season, a fixture yet to be arranged after 3rd Round FA Cup involvement.  They’ll come up against a player desperate to show his worth.
