Released Walsall full-back Aaron Lescott, who played 34 times for Walsall on last season, has put pen to paper on a deal at Halesowen Town. The former Bristol Rovers defender had trialed at Yeovil Town this summer but left without securing a deal at the club.
He signed forms on Tuesday night and was a real coup for The Yeltz whose start their Southern League South and West campaign with a trip to Paulton at the weekend.
Manager Shaun Cunningham spoke of the season opener and his new signing said:
“I’ve managed to get a bit of information on them, they seem to be a decent outfit.
“We will certainly have to go down there and be at our best.
“It’s going to be a tough season for us in this division, make no mistake. There is a lot of travelling and at some games there is going to be very little away support.
“But I’m a firm believe you have to go into every season thinking you can challenge and we will aim to be in the mix.
“We are at the early stages of rebuilding a side but to get someone of Aaron Lescott’s experience and ability is a real boost and testimony to the direction the club is now heading.”
That direction is definitely now up and with current discussions centred around players and tactics, it’s often difficult to believe it was only three months ago the club’s very existence was in serious question.
