Jonathan Forte has been reported as being on Dean Smith’s watch-list as January approaches with the much needed replacements on the radar. The former Sheffield United, Doncaster and Rotherham striker has been out of favour on the south coast this season and returned to League One on loan with Preston North End in November.
The E+S report Forte is one of many on Smith’s radar with him having many targets being watched, ahead of what could be a busy January with Walsall trying to avoid a repeat of last season’s struggles.
Forte is out is available at The Saints but they will want a fee, which means a loan move would be the most likely option available to the Saddlers, we never pay fees so we won’t in this instance either.
No official approach has been made for the former Scunthorpe man but with a scoring record of just 22 in 22 games this season, this is an area we need to address quickly.
Forte has scored 41 goals in 270 games – 141 starts – and has netted twice in the Carling Cup for Southampton this season.
