League One MK Dons are reported to have agreed the shock signing of Newcastle United’s former Manchester United and Leeds, England international midfielder Alan Smith.

Smith, 31, who was capped 19 times by England, has six months left on his £60,000-a-week contract at St James’ Park.  

At Stadium:MK Newcastle will continue to pay him £57,500 a week, with his new club paying the remaining £2,500

Smith has not started a game for over a year and is desperate to play football again.  He has been impressed by MK and believes the club can win promotion to the Championship, however there is interest from three Chinese clubs who could yet gazump the deal.
