Darren Byfield appeared as a trialist for Port Vale on Friday night against Nantwich Town.
The former Saddler who enjoyed two spells at Bescot played in the first half against the non-league side.
Cash strapped Vale are known to be in the market for a striker and 35 year old Byfield showed in his 45 minutes that he may still have something to offer following a season of trials before ending the campaign with Solihull Moors.
Port Vale manager Micky Adams said after the pre-season friendly:
“Darren is on trial with us, and the only way I can make a decision on him is if he plays games,”
“He’s an experienced player who knows where the back of the net is, but we haven’t made any decisions yet.”
Vale already have an ex-Saddlers presence in their squad with Clayton MacDonald and Chris Shuker signed up for the new season in League Two.
