Walsall manager Dean Smith has added to his defensive options ahead of the trip to QPR, by snapping up experienced left-back Andy Taylor on a non-contract basis. QPR fans may be familiar with the 26 year old, after he played 3 times on loan at Loftus Road earlier in his career.
Taylor, who has previously had spells at Blackburn Rovers, Tranmere Rovers and Sheffield United, as well as a clutch of loan clubs including tonight’s opponents, seems to be a clever signing by Smith, however his recent injury that forced his departure from Bramall Lane will be of slight concern. However, he has represented England at U16 to U20 levels, and comes with a good pedigree.
Taylor has gone straight into the squad that has travelled to London for the Capital One Cup Second Round tie, and his signing potentially paves the way for James Chambers to move across into his preferred right-back position at the expense of Ben Purkiss. The move for Taylor seems to signal that the Saddlers’ pursuit of Jordan Stewart now appears to be at an end.
