Smith warns Grof – Jimmy wants your place

Walsall manager Dean Smith has told No.1 David Grof he needs to cut out mistakes because Jimmy Walker is ready to step in if needed

Grof had an opening day of the league season to forget against Doncaster on Saturday and Tuesday night against Oldham was a quick chance to put the mistakes behind him but he was at fault for the goal conceded late in the first half.

Smith told Radio WM after the game:

“Groffy knows he needs to cut out mistakes or he’ll have Jimmy breathing his neck.

“It’s dog eat dog. They all want a place and Jimmy’s as hungry as ever.

Club appearance record holder Walker, 39,  has part time coaching duties this season but despite mentoring Grof, still has his eyes on the starting role.
